Zukertort Opening: Lisitsyn Gambit (1. Nf3 f5 2. e4 fxe4 3. Ng5)
The Lisitsyn Gambit is an aggressive and somewhat unorthodox continuation in the Zukertort Opening. After White plays 3. Ng5 targeting the e4 pawn, White immediately puts pressure on Black's advanced pawn and aims to exploit Black's slightly weakened kingside structure.
Characteristic: The key idea behind 3. Ng5 is to quickly challenge Black's central pawn on e4 and initiate active piece play. This move seeks to regain the pawn with tempo and create attacking chances, often leading to sharp and tactical positions.
Attack or Defense: When playing as White, this gambit is attacking in nature, aiming to unsettle Black early and seize the initiative. Black, on the other hand, must be careful and often takes a defensive stance to hold onto the extra pawn and consolidate.
Center Control: The opening focuses on contesting the center indirectly. White challenges Black’s e4 pawn immediately, aiming to undermine Black's foothold in the center rather than establishing a strong central pawn presence right away.
This opening is defined by the position shown on the board below. The moves displayed are a typical sequence that leads to it, but different sequences can reach the same position and still carry the same opening name.
